Launch a street association with a LOVE Marlow Street Party!
A loose association of stakeholders in Marlow has been working to encourage the creation of street associations. This ‘Love my street’ initiative is part of Love Marlow, a town-wide initiative to encourage a greater sense of community at a street level. It occurs to us that a street party in your street to celebrate the Queen’s 90 birthday is a brilliant excuse to start a street association – although it may be best to have it after the Love Marlow week (as you can see, there is already plenty going on!!)
It is so easy to start a street association and we are here to help. We have a suggested process and supporting materials that you can use to ensure all your street is included in the party and its planning. We suggest that you have an initial meeting, normally in someone’s home, inviting everyone from your street to explain what is being planned. We find that people really welcome the idea. At this meeting we suggest you form a ‘core group’ of neighbours to take it forward, normally 4 to 8 people. It’s the core group that comes up with imaginative ideas for the event.
We are really happy to come along and help with the planning. We can also help with road closure applications and insurance. Several street associations have already ‘launched’ in Marlow and they are finding a transformed community where people know each other, smile, greet, find they have things in common and know they really belong. And just ‘look out’ for each other. It would be great if you could at least let us know what you are planning and when it is. We are going to ‘recognise’ each street party here on the Love Marlow web site.
